How could friends and acquaintances subject a young woman to such torture over a matter of sexual jealousy? The victim, 35, was held illegally, raped and tortured for a week in a small village near Bourges. All because a woman she knew is said to have accused her of having a relationship with her boy friend. Seven men and women, including three teenagers that the victim knew well, have been indicted. How could they have carried out such barbarous acts for so long without anybody intervening?
