COUSCOUS : THE FRENCH LOVE IT | M6 | 66 minutes

Every year for 25 years, couscous also has its world! Following a drastic selection, eight countries have qualified for the 2022 edition which will take place at the end of September in the seaside resort of San Vito lo Capo in Sicily.

The France will be represented by Massi Augustin. This 42-year-old Franco-Algerian has taken a passion for this ancestral dish, which he has shared since a young age on Fridays with his family.

An executive in the industry, Massi traveled for nearly 15 years before returning to settle in Paris. Everywhere, he trained in the thousand and one ways to prepare couscous. His dream:

Open a restaurant entirely dedicated to this popular dish, declining it in Asian, Breton or Mexican fashion. If his project was aborted because of the pandemic, he hopes to win the championship to gain notoriety and move forward. For this, he relies on an unusual recipe based on coconut cream, pineapple, and sweet potato.

But the competition promises to be tough. Other candidates include Badr Benjelloun, 43. This Moroccan, who lives in Italy, participates for the second consecutive year in the world. Supported on the spot by his family and friends, he will offer a couscous version pastilla and intends not to let go …

Known all over the world, this championship attracts couscous enthusiasts, such as Piero. This Italian who speaks perfect French leads a group of expatriates in Palermo. With about fifty expatriates of all nationalities, he will make the bus journey to San Vito lo Capo. If he comes first to taste couscous and support his country, he intends to participate in the gigantic party on the beach that will close the championship.
