Crime in the countryside: 3 months in the biggest police station in France | TF1 | Appels d'urgence

Many believe that the countryside and small towns are free of crime. They are wrong. And the figures prove it: hold-ups, burglaries and trafficking of all sorts have become everyday events in small towns that have long been considered peaceful. The reason? Hitting these small towns appears to pose less of a risk. Businesses that have little or no protection, a less suspicious population, isolated homes and farms, etc. All conditions required to make them the targets for criminals. An example is Lunel, near Montpellier. The upside is a charming little town in the middle of the countryside, basking in the warmth of the south. The downside is a community riddled with crime and which, despite its small size, (26,000) includes no less than three “Priority Security Areas”, a term used in France to denote areas where crime is the most deep-rooted. Faced with so much crime, the Gendarmerie has decided to strike hard: it has set up the biggest brigade of gendarmes in France right there, in order to intervene on all fronts at the same time. Forceful arrests, hunting down burglars and dismantling trafficking networks… for three months our team followed the war that these gendarmes is waging on crime.
