DRUGS AND GOLD BULLION : SCANDALS AT CITY HALL | M6 | 66 minutes
The small Yonne town of Avallon is in turmoil. Yesterday, the gendarmes carried out a vast “clean sweep” operation against drug trafficking in this town of 8,000 inhabitants. And against all expectations, among the homes raided was that of Jamilah Habsaoui, the town’s mayor. In her bungalow in the sensitive Morlande district, the police found no less than 70 kilos of cannabis resin in the garage and an outbuilding. According to Le Parisien, 983 grams of cocaine were also seized in the house. The town hall and the pharmacy where the 46-year-old mayor also works were also searched.
Following this most surprising discovery, Jamilah Habsaoui was taken into custody along with 6 other people, including 2 of her brothers. At the home of one of them, the gendarmes also found 7,000 euros in cash, weapons and around twenty gold bars.
The man was already known for drug trafficking. He was said to have used his sister’s home to store his stock, but the mayor claimed she was unaware of this.
So who really is Jamilah Habsaoui? Is the mayor of Avallon involved in drug trafficking or simply a victim of her brothers’ actions? One thing’s for sure: the news has hit the town like a bombshell.
