Gaza : the war of communication | Reportage | Arte
As the Israeli army prepares to launch the third phase of its offensive in the Gaza strip, our crew investigates behind the scenes of the propaganda war, from the hills overlooking Gaza, to which reporters are confined, to images posted on the Internet. The Israeli government has surrounded itself with an army of communicators. In Jerusalem, we follow Yigal Palmor, spokesman for the Israeli Ministry for Foreign Affairs. His days are planned around a host of interviews with the international media. He is constantly informed of the latest news from the front and tries to avoid talking about collateral civilian victims of the conflict. Yigal Palmor also records message to be posted on the Internet justifying the Israeli position. He also agreed to be filmed during his video conference with the Israeli embassies in European, where he hones the message for their spokespersons to explain this war. On its side, Hamas has responded by posting its own images on the Internet denouncing the “massacres”. This is also an investigation into the frustrating efforts of reporters, prevented from entering the Gaza strip. The Israelis organise guided tours, in particular to the town of Sderot, situated four kilometres from the Gaza strip, which is the target of rocket attacks from Islamic brigades.
