IMAGES OF THE PRESIDENTS OF REPUBLIC AS SEEN BY PHOTOGRAPHERS | LCP | DébatDoc
In 2022, the French people elected their new President of the Republic.
All have left a clearly identified image. But how is the image of a President created?
What role have photographers played in the past in the making of this image?
This documentary is based upon several narrative elements.
Mainly, interviews with political photographers who decode their photos: Jean Claude Coutausse and Sébastien Calvet. They describe their approach in their work, adding anecdotes and context to tell the story of a political moment.
Alain Génestar, former head of Paris Match, and Marc Brincourt, foremost expert on the magazine’s archives, analyse the image of the Presidents of the Republic by decoding the archives of Paris Match magazine, which represents the biggest collection of photographs of the Presidents of the Republic since De Gaulle.
Each brings his own take on the making of the image of the Presidents of the Republic with whom the photographers were in close contact.
