Liberia : a fragile peace | Reportage | Arte
Charles Taylor resigned from the presidency of Liberia at the end of August 2003 after weeks of conflict in the capital of Monrovia. Will his departure put an end to 13 years of a civil war which has caused between 100,000 and 200,000 deaths? Nothing is more certain, for today, only Monrovia is calm. Fighting continues in the rest of the country. Paul COMITI spent July and August 2003 in the country during the worst of the fighting. The hatred between factions, the wealth being plundered, the manipulated child soldiers and the drugged soldierswhat the film reveals speaks ill for a lasting peace.
