In the field of ultra-luxury, some objects are so rare, so sought after that they sell for more on the second-hand market than new, in store. This is the case for some models of Rolex watches, one or two models of Ferrari, and for the iconic bags “Birkin” and “Kelly” of the Hermès brand. For the latter, the price on the second-hand market can reach double or triple the price of new!
This extraordinary situation has given ideas to smart guys who have established real sales networks for these luxury bags. They recruit by all means people who “present well”, that is to say, which correspond to the standing of the Hermès house, and entrust them with the mission of going to buy a “Birkin” or a “Kelly” in a store of the brand. The task is far from easy, because
the saddler is wary of these “professional buyers”. So they put in place a whole process to identify them.
First, you must make an appointment, by giving an ID. Then, if you are lucky enough to get an appointment, a salesperson will receive you and bombard you with questions to be sure that you are an individual, and that you do not buy it to resell it to a hidden network.
That’s why these networks mostly use comedians to make these very special purchases. Because in front of the seller, you almost have to play a role, to be credible! One of these actors agreed to film for us with a hidden camera, his recruitment by one of these hidden sales networks and his very special purchase at Hermès
