MUMS ON THEIR OWN | France 5 | Le Monde en face
In 40 years the number of single mothers in France has more than doubled. There are now more than a million of them raising children alone. One family in five is affected by this situation, one that is often difficult to manage day to day. While one woman in three in France is now living below the poverty line, single mums have to make harsh choices every day: how to work and struggle with debts while looking after your offspring? Poor babysitting arrangements, unpaid maintenance, the daily life of a single mother sometimes resembles an obstacle course. Three mums on their own, Christine, Audrey and Céline, tell their stories.
