Nepal: On the edge of the precipice | France 5 | Les Routes de l'Impossible

In the extreme northwest of Nepal, the Limi Valley lies hidden behind a series of peaks rising to more than 6,000m. In winter, the valley is completely cut off from the world. In order to deliver vaccines and medication, a handful of men and women embark on an adventure lasting several days where roads hugging the cliff face and high, snowbound passes await them. The team alternates between foot slogging and sections in 4 x 4. However, mule caravans prove to be a much more reliable mode of transport than off-road vehicles caught in the ice or landslides.

Backing onto the Tibetan plateau, the Limi Valley still lives to the rhythm of ancestral traditions. It is home to one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in the country. But, with the accelerating melting of the glaciers, the villages in the valley are living on borrowed time.

The regions of Western Nepal are the most isolated in the world. Driving its roads is a constant dance with death. Nagendra drives his truck along the edge of the abyss, ready to take any risk to make his deliveries on time and provide for his tiny family.
