Off the back of a truck 2 | TF1 | Reportages
When you bought something you wouldn?t ever dream of treating yourself to at a price lower than the store, you thought you had a good deal. Alas, or too bad! It?s often an article that, as they say ?fell off the back of truck?. A bad deal that could render the buyer liable to a charge of receiving stolen goods and to thousands of euros in fines. In fact, every day on the roads of France, six trucks are attacked and emptied of their contents. Depots under heavy surveillance are burgled. Police, gendarmes and customs officers increase checks and surveillance in vain? computers, printers, flat screens, digital cameras, DVD players, clothes and luxury perfumes, fine wines and champagne, and recently caviar, are all stolen and resold in record time on the parallel market.Last year, customs seized four million, five hundred thousand items ?fallen off the back of a truck?. That?s ten times more than in 2004. They all end up in the same place: a garbage center at a secret location where they are systematically destroyed and burned.
