RIDE ACCIDENTS | M6 | 66 minutes

Thrill rides, carousels, cotton candy… Who hasn’t enjoyed a summer’s day with the family at a funfair or amusement park ? Today, the magic is not quite there. In recent months, several tragedies have plunged the industry into mourning. Compared with the millions of visitors to fairs and amusement parks in France every year, fatal accidents are relatively rare. But that’s what happened last February in the town of Clermont-Ferrand. Late in the evening, a 21-year-old woman was riding a thrill ride. Tiffany was twirling 15 meters above the ground when her seatbelt came undone. The young woman tipped over and died instantly. Since the tragedy, her mother Virginie has been fighting to establish the truth. How could Tiffany have fallen? Since the accident, the courts have indicted the ride operator for “involuntary manslaughter”. We are investigating this tragedy, as well as the conditions under which checks are carried out. In the world of fairgrounds, there’s no question of raising the slightest suspicion about the profession. In all transparency, the “Ok Corall” park agreed to open its doors to us. With several dozen thrill rides and 400,000 visitors every summer, this park on the outskirts of Marseille wants to show us its methods for reducing the risk of accidents.
