RODEOS | Enquête d'action | W9

Cars or motorcycles launched at full speed in front of a wild crowd. In shopping mall parking lots, on the ring road and even in the city center, drivers take disproportionate risks.
These wild rodeos are organized illegally and without any safety measures.
The phenomenon is multiplying all over France. In the space of a year, the police have made 350 arrests and issued 7,000 fines. Offenders are liable to one year’s imprisonment and a fine of 15,000 euros. But that doesn’t stop them. In a recent incident on the outskirts of Bordeaux, a car ran off the road, injuring six people, two of them seriously. The police are on their toes, and local residents are at their wit’s end.
Another worrying phenomenon: according to the French Ministry of the Interior, there is a refusal to yield every 20 minutes in France. This offence has become a nightmare for the police.
Who are the perpetrators of these rodeos and refusals to yield? How do they get round the law? What measures has the state put in place to curb these phenomena? How do the police act? How do local residents organize themselves?
We report on a new form of delinquency that is causing panic on France’s roads.
