SAMU 13: LIFE ON A THREAD | TF1 | Reportages
Providing assistance and saving lives is their job. In order to protect the 2 million residents of the Bouches du Rhône, the 161 personnel of the SAMU 13 (emergency ambulance service) work 24/24, 7/7. With 1,600 emergency calls received every day, 45 interventions each day (17,000 per year), the SAMU 13 is one of the biggest in France. Its main operation is based at the la Timone hospital in Marseille, but its range of activity sometimes extends to the whole PACA region when pediatric emergencies are concerned. For the officers who handle the #15 calls, as for the doctors, nurses and ambulance staff of the SAMU, who are out in the field throughout the year, every day is a challenge. Who are the men and women who work in the field to rescue us from dangerous situations? How do they manage the stress and emotions of their everyday lives? How do you take the right decision within a few moments when a life is at stake? For several weeks we experience their anxieties, doubts, fears, joys as we share the lives of Xavier, doctor, Sandra, controller at the 15 call center, Eric, nurse, and Pascale, pediatric specialist, all everyday heroes.
