SENEGAL : HEAD ABOVE WATER | France 5 | Les Routes de l'Impossible

Every year, in Senegal, during the rainy season, the water covers entire regions, including cities, triggering a veritable exodus towards the Casamance. The road crosses through Gambia, a tiny land-locked country crossed by the river of the same name, which forms a sort of barrier in the middle of Senegal and one of whose principal resources is the criminal exploitation of travellers. In this latest Impossible Roads, we follow the sufferings of these seasonal exiles along tracks turned into mud traps by the rains. We share the lives of women in the rice paddies and their exhausting labor and we sail with fishermen in long wooden canoes who brave the ocean and its dangers for a pitiful wage.Or, how keeping your head above water can be a daily challenge.
