Single mother: the fight for survival | M6 | 66 minutes
She’s 40 years old, has no job, three children to look after and has to live off €750 per month of Social Security. Severine, from Tours, lives a life that is like that of many a single mother in France. There are two million in the country and they have twice the unemployment rate and poverty levels as the rest of the population. It’s a trap that is sadly commonplace: women gave up a career to take care of their babies then their husbands go, leaving them alone and without resources with their children. How does Severine, who has never worked, go about looking for a job in the hotel sector? Rent, food, clothing: what does she give up to ensure her children don’t go without?
