The black widow of al qeda | M6 | 66 minutes
Fatiha Mejjati, the black widow of Al Qeda. Fatiha Mejjati wears a black burqa, which doesn’t reveal as much as a finger. And yet until the age of 30 this was a “liberated woman”, who wore make-up and frequented the discotheques along the corniche in Casablanca. She was a brilliant student, who graduated with honours from Hassan II University and was awarded a grant to come to study in Paris. In 1991, the Gulf War turned her into a fundamentalist. She sees it as an identity wake-up call. So, Fatiha became a fanatic. While already wearing the veil, she met her husband, Karim Mejjati, a Franco-Moroccan, who doesn’t even speak Arabic and has never read the Koran. Within several years he too turned to radical Islamic fundamentalism and attended the Al Qeda training camps in Afghanistan. He is believed to be the brains behind the terrorist atrocities in Madrid in 2004, in Casablanca and in Ryhad?more than 270 deaths. The couple has dragged their two children into their fanatical struggle. Now, one is dead along with his father, shot down by police in Saudi Arabia; the other is seriously disturbed and a proponent of jihad. This report is the portrait of a modern woman who suddenly turns to fanaticism. A woman who now wants to be the standard bearer of Al Qeda.
