The Fate of Miss Honduras | M6 | 66 minutes

Miss Honduras, Maria José Alvarado, 19, was murdered, with her sister, the day before she was due to leave for the Miss World contest. On the evening of November 13, the two young women were planning to enjoy a perfectly ordinary party to celebrate the birthday of Plutarco, Sofia’s boyfriend. And yet he is suspected of killing them both, right on the dance floor. The probable cause of the gunshot: a fit of jealousy. So they say that Sofia was killed because she danced with another man and Maria José, Miss Honduras, was slain to prevent her reporting Plutarco. The 32 year-old was arrested with one of his friends, whom they say he forced to hide the body. The remains of the two young women were found buried on the banks of a river. The tragedy shocked the whole of Honduras. In this ultra-violent country, with the highest homicide rate on the planet, life has no value, not even that of a beauty queen and her sister. How could Plutarco have reached the point where he shot his girlfriend? What drew Sofia to go around with this dangerous young man? What could Maria José, the Miss, have done to try to put a brake on the spiral of violence? An investigation in the most violent country in the world.
