For some years now, conventional farmers and the food-processing industry have been riding the “ecology” wave, but without meeting the standards for organic produce. From vegetables to fish, by way of condiments, private or publicly owned, “green” labels are everywhere. They all promise we can consume better while protecting the planet. However, although some meet specifications highly protective of the environment, others are just one more advertising plug. A “greenwashing” that is especially welcome at a time when consumers are leaning more than ever towards ecologically respectful purchases. So, how do we pick our way through the jungle of labelling?
