Tracking down fugitives | TF1 | Appels d'urgence
As incredible as it seems, in France, 30% of prison sentences are never served – those who’ve been sentenced but not imprisoned at the conclusion of their trial and who forget to show up at the prison. They are considered as prisoners on the run. Escapes which last sometimes up to twenty years. Tracking down these fugitives: the hunters. They belong to what is called the Warrants’ Brigade. From murderers to armed robbers to big-time swindlers (such as this former head of the German secret services hidden in France), the mission of these “hunters” is to track down the fugitives, to bring them in to the public prosecutor who will decide or not to send them to prison. But a tardy sanction never has the same impact. For the victims as well as for those who are guilty.
