It was the orange color of the meat in a batch of veal in a Brittany slaughter house that first put the French National Veterinary Investigation Squad on the trail of a calf breeder and then onto that of an unscrupulous veterinarian who was taking care of the calf breeder’s animals. The investigation revealed that the veterinarian who was in charge of the health of at least two hundred thousand calves in France had been stuffing the animals with medicine without informing the breeders and although the animals weren’t sick.
